Interview Questions for Hiring a Childcare Provider

Recommended care provider interview questions:

  • How long have you worked with children and which age groups are you most experienced with?
  • What is your general approach to working with children? What are some examples of how you apply this approach?
  • What are some engagement activities you like to do with children in each age group?
  • How do you build relationships with kids?
  • What is your behavior management style and what strategies do you use?
  • Give a scenario (based on age group for position). For example, “How would you handle a toddler having a tantrum and a screaming infant, simultaneously?”
  • What would a family you’ve worked with say about your personality, care approach, strengths and weaknesses?
  • Which values do you try to instill in the children in your care?
  • How do you think children learn best? How do you facilitate this learning?
  • Do you have experience working with special needs or food allergies?
  • What are you looking for in your next nanny position and/or family?
  • Do you prefer structure and scheduling or are you more “go with the flow”? Please give examples.
  • What household tasks are you comfortable with? Are there any you are uncomfortable with?
  • Do you have any allergies or health concerns we should know about?
  • How long are you able to commit to your next position and when are you available to start?
  • What safety measures do you have in place in regard to COVID-19 and are you vaccinated?
  • How do you wish to be paid (weekly, payroll, etc.)
  • What else would you like me to know about you?
