Interviewing a Doula – Recommended Questions:

  • What is your training and certification ?
  •  How many families have you worked with and in what capacity?
  • Do you have any other relevant training?
  • Do you have experience training in breastfeeding?
  • What is your approach to working with parents to prepare for the birth? What do you focus on and what are some strategies you use?
  • What is your approach to supporting families postpartum?
  • What do you see as the most important part of your role?
  • Why did you become a doula? What makes you passionate about this work?
  • What services do you provide? Do you clean, cook, laundry, errands, provide baby care, etc.?
  • Do you have experience with moms who are experiencing postpartum mood disorders? Are you trained to help recognize postpartum mood disorders?
  • Do you have a backup doula, in case of an emergency?
  • May I email, text or call you with questions at any time?
  • How does scheduling work? Do you have minimum hours? Which days do you work?
  • Do you work under a contract?
  • Do you have any clients due around the time I am?
  • Are your immunizations up to date?
  • Do you have current infant/adult CPR training?
  • Are you fully vaccinated against COVID?
