Interview Questions for Adult Care Providers

Note: If your family member requires specific medical care, please discuss in detail with the candidate

  • Please share more about your background and experience, specifically as an adult care provider. 
  • What is your philosophy/approach as a care provider? What draws you to this work?
  • Have you ever worked with [specific medical needs] in the past? 
    • List each task you’ll expect your caregiver to assist with and ask about their comfort level & experience (prepping food, assisting with eating, bathing, administering medicine, driving, household tasks, etc.)
  • Please share more about your role as [insert specific position].
  • When [insert scenario] happens, which practices and strategies do you implement?
  • What are some specific challenges you’ve encountered in care provider roles and how did you work through them?
  • Have you ever had an acute emergency occur while providing care? Please describe and explain how you handled the situation.
  • Do you have experience coordinating with multiple family members? 
  • What is your schedule & when are you available? Note: Your Care Consultant will confirm this on your family’s behalf, but we encourage families to have this conversation, as you know your family’s needs best.
  • Please share how you’re protecting yourself from COVID-19 and the safety protocols you implement as a care provider.
  • Is there anything else you’d like to share?

After your interview, please email your Care Consultant with general thoughts. If it’s not a fit, your Care Consultant will let the candidate know. If you want to move forward with a candidate, your Care Consultant will confirm with the candidate and move forward with the screening process (Criminal Background Check, social media review, reference checks, & CPR verification).
